Verbattle is the biggest debate competition in Karnataka and perhaps also the biggest intellectual competition in India, with thousands of students from 8 yrs to 24 years having participated, through the 8 years of Verbattle's existence.
The word Verbattle is the acronym for Verbal Battle, and is a registered nonprofit organization, headed by well know media person Deepak Thimaya.
Verbattle through its internationally acclaimed format of debate has been conducting competitions since 2005. Verbattle believes that debates are a way to encourage children and youth of this country to imbibe values of democracy and civil society. Verbattle aims to make its participants through its competitions and other activities more tolerant, mutually respecting with camaraderie.
Verbattle is working with the glorious aim of providing solution for conflict in divided communities in a large country like ours. Currently, Verbattle is operating in India with its base in Bangalore. But also the organization is actively campaigning for reaching its philosophy and format to various parts of the world. Verbattle has partnered with World Debate Institute, Vermont, US.
Verbattle was born out of the need to popularize debates among the masses, the kind of debates audiences would like to watch - short, to the point, witty and quick, engaging, participative and on everyday issues.
Till date Verbattle has conducted 12 state level competitions in Karnataka - 8 Verbattle Junior and 4 Verbattle Senior and also three Verbattle Junior competitions in Bangalore. For the first time a South India level competition - Verbattle South - was held in January, 2011.
Currently Verbattle is organizing state, regional, national and international competitions along with its other activities such as Verbattle Forum, Club and Leadership programs.
Verbattle Karnataka 2013 is the latest edition of Verbattle in Karnataka. It is a prelude to the other competitions around the country.
Verbattle Karnataka this year began with Verbattle Beginner on Wednesday the 24th of July. Verbattle Beginner is for children in the age group of 8 to 12 years. There after the Junior competition for age group 12 to 16 years and the Senior Competition for age group 16 to 24 years are being held with the finals slated for the 23rd of August.
