Chennai WUDC News - ESL/EFL & Adjudication Test

Dear All,

We hope that you are enjoying the holidays and looking forward to Chennai Worlds in a little under two weeks. We have some important announcements that we recommend that all read:

ESL/EFL Applications

We have now begun the pre-interview process for determining language statuses at WUDC 2014. The language committee will review applications and either issue a decision before the tournament granting ESL or EFL status or call applicants for an interview during the competition.

If you wish to compete with either ESL or EFL language status, follow the link bellow and fill in the form provided: http://tinyurl.com/pagx52q

If you wish to review the criteria set by Council that the language committee will implement to determine your language status, please consult:http://tinyurl.com/olwx2mf

The deadline for completing the pre-interview is Friday 20 December at 20:00 GMT

Adjudication Test

All Adjudicators are required to take a short test, which will determine their initial ranking at Chennai Worlds. This Chennai Worlds Adjudication test will include three sections. In the first, you will be asked some questions about yourself and your debating achievements. In the second section you will be asked to watch and answer questions on a specific debate. Finally, you will be asked some general questions that aim to assess your level of understanding of the British Parliamentary Format.

The test is available here: http://goo.gl/AtA9Ve

No Submissions will be accepted after 00:01 (GMT) on 24.12.2013. Anyone who does not complete the test by that point will find their ranking seriously affected.

If you have any questions please email adjudication@chennaiworlds.com.

Pre-briefing

A full debating and adjudication briefing will be available in the next few days. The vast majority of this year’s briefings will match last year’s briefings in Berlin, which you can find here: http://goo.gl/e7Vn9

In addition, we have highlighted a few issues in a pre-briefing. That briefing is available here: http://tinyurl.com/onwhocg

Motion List

The following link contains a list of motions that have been set in closed motion BP competition by an adjudication team including any members of the WUDC 2014 adjudication team since January 2013: http://tinyurl.com/lk87mgm

They do not indicate topics that we will repeat or avoid when setting motions at Chennai Worlds.

If you have any other question about adjudication please feel free to contact us. We look forward to welcoming you all to Chennai!

Regards,

Michael Baer (michael.baer@chennaiworlds.com)
Harish Natarajan (harish.natarajan@chennaiworlds.com)
