From Ian Lising via Koc WUDC Organizers:
Dear Members of the World Debating Community,By now, many of you are aware that the Chair of the World Debating Council, Mr. Neill Harvey-Smith, has resigned his position and will not be attending Worlds at Koc in the next fortnight. Unfortunately, I have been recently informed by the Koc Worlds Organizing Committee that the same could be said of the rest of the Council Executive Committee. This leaves us with the need to hold elections for an interim set of officers for the purposes of conducting Council business on 01.01.2010. This election will be held on the pre-council meeting on 12.28.2009.I will be handling the interim issues of Council until the conclusion of the elections on 12.28.2010 in my capacity as World Council Member Emeritus.I will also appoint an interim Council Equity Officer for issues that may arise from 12.26.2009 until the election.Cheers,Ian LisingWorld Council Member EmeritusAgenda for World Council 2010Preliminary Council Meeting 12.28.2010Distribution of Meeting Minutes from Council meeting of Worlds 2009Roll Callo Delegate Nameso Voting statusElections for Council Executive Committee 2010Institution reviewo N-1 ReviewSpeaker Reviewo 4 year ruleo ESL participantso EFL participantsDistribution of 2012 Bid MaterialsENDCouncil Meeting 01.01.2010Roll Callo Delegate Nameso Voting statusWorlds 2009 Minuteso Vote to accept minutesCork Report & Accountso Cork Rep to report on Tournamento Cork Rep to present final accountsKoc Report & Accountso Koc Rep to report on Tournamento Koc Rep to present initial accountsWorlds 2011 Bid Defenseo Bid Defense Presentationo Questions from council memberso Vote to Confirm Botswana as 2011 hostsBids for Worlds 2012o De La Salle & Toronto present bids (order to be determined by random draw)o Questions from Council Memberso Vote on hosts for Worlds 2012Lunch BreakConstitution ReviewCommittee Reportso Chairo Registraro Secretaryo Women’s Officero Equity Officero Regional ReportsOther Business2011 World Executive Committee ElectionsEND
But, Omar Salahuddin, also a former council president, has a different perspective:
Dear Ian, et al,I was in touch with Ms Adiba, the elected WUDC secretary yesterday and as far as I am aware, she has not resigned. Therefore, if proper procedure is followed, she should be the one to Chair the WUDC Council meetings (or is there some other reason why the more normal procedures are being ignored?) Just my five cents worth...Omar.
