Watching the tab scroll down
A number of people have a stomach bug, not food poisoning, happens when immune system is lower, delayed the tab a bit, things still smooth.
Still on schedule, lack of feedback in closed rounds speeds things up a bit.
Everyone is gearing up for a huge New Year's Eve party, big tent, apparently on the beach.
Two videos this morning from the competing bids - Hart House for Toronto and De La Salle for Manila. Both were nice, but they were a bit catty with each other. DLSU kept saying "we are the only bid that..." when that did not seem to be true, and Hart House was a bit catty when they said you would not need a "police escort" to go from the hotel to the tournament site. It may be quite close.
My personal concerns include:
Hart House is quite an established program, and DLSU would help Asia and provide a very warm climate meterorologically.
But, DLSU had some problems with the Asian Schools Debating Championship they hosted, so I am not sure how they will do with an event this big whereas Hart House has a solid record.
The "on the ground" campaigning is getting pretty heavy.
No more clarity about who is running to lead the council.
About expanding the break:
More for 48 expansion (with top 16 going through) than for 64.
Competing case being made for more prelim rounds to make sure best get through.
Some talk of 10 prelims and 48.
Hardliners still say no change is called for.
Expanding argument that more people can say they broke at worlds not so popular, more acceptance to the notion that it will help them to build their programs.
More to come!
