If
you participated in debate in high school or college, you already know
that debate education gives kids many of the skills they need to succeed
in college and beyond. As alums, our debate backgrounds continue to
influence the way we see the world and approach complex problems long
after we leave the classroom. Today, we’re asking if you can spare
90 minutes a week for
10 weeks
later this school year to share your love and knowledge of debate with
students in low-income communities through our partnership with
Citizen Schools. We’re looking for people who are ready to help now: Citizen Schools will begin its training process for new volunteers on
Monday, September 9.
Citizen
Schools is a great nonprofit organization that connects middle school
students with real world skills and sets them on track for future career
pathways. If you’re a professional with debate experience (with
preference given to non-teachers), Citizen Schools is looking for you.
And of course, if you have likeminded friends, spread the word, because
Citizen Schools volunteers often teach in small groups of two to four
friends or co-workers per classroom.
We
know there are alumni everywhere who are eager to contribute their
time, knowledge, and passion to benefit their communities while reaping
the many rewards of volunteerism. For now, Citizen Schools has openings
in the following geographic areas:
