Dear Debating Community,
We are proud to invite delegations from all around the world to the inaugural
Eurasian Schools Debating Championships in Istanbul between January 27th and
February 1st, organized by the Robert College Debate Society, supported by Yeditepe
University, ESU Turkey and many more. We hope that this event will be an opportunity for
debaters from all around the world to meet where continents meet and have a fun five-day
tournament.
During the tournament, the delegations will be staying in Yeditepe University dorms
on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, their transportation to and from the venues will be
provided by the ESDC organization committee.
We hope that the tournament will be an exciting debating event. We will be
introducing power-pairing to the international schools debating circuit for the first time,
furthermore there will be a separate ESL semi-final. Just as other WSDC style
tournaments there will be eight preliminary rounds followed by quarter finals. We will be
inviting experienced adjudicators from all around the world to help us in the Chief
Adjudicator’s Panel. The judges who have confirmed up to this point are Ms. Effie
Giannakouri and Mr. Can Talaz.
Another thing we would like to try this year is to set up the Eurasian Schools Debating
Council, as we would like to turn this magnificent opportunity into a tradition.
The registration will be opening on September 26th, Sunday. Acknowledging the fact that
some countries have not yet finished their national team selections we would not be
requiring the delegations to register the details of their members. Furthermore, we will be
employing a tiered registration system that will ensure that as many nations as possible
will be represented in the highest level. Therefore we will be prioritizing National Teams
and school teams from countries which are not represented on the the national team level.
For further information please review our registration manual which will be made available
on our Facebook group or www.rcdebate.com
Lastly the registration fee, we cannot give the precise amount yet, however due to
immense sponsorships we hope to keep the registration fee under 100 euros.
Sincerely
Cem Zorlular
Convener, ESDC 2011
