Follow Up To Glasgow Ancients Incident - Women Triumphing in Debating

From Kitty Maeve Parker Brooks

Despite this whole thing being rubbish I just had a very reassuring thought (which also, in response to your comment (which I agree with) might cheer you up too Kirsty): very recently - Pam&Catherine topped the Worlds tab,Rebecca&Marlena topped the Ancients tab, Clara&myself topped the Edinburgh tab, Elise&Anna won Manchester. All all female teams. At both Worlds and Euros the top speakers were women (Pam&Maria). At Euros 2 out of 3 of the top speakers were women and at Worlds 4 out of 6 of the top speakers were women, including Christine, who also topped the Trinity tab. More frequently are we seeing majority female judging panels, with well-respected judges on them. 2 out of 4 (or 3 out of 5 if you count me :P ) of the SSDC Worlds breaking judges were women. And the convening teams for both the Oxford and Cambridge IVs were entirely made up of hard-working women (which facebook isnt letting me tag).

These men were idiots and the response from some in the debating community has not been adequate and we need to try harder. But on the other hand, it's very reassuring to see that, not only are they wrong, but *how* wrong they are about the role that women are increasingly playing in debating. Yaaaay! :)— with Emma Livingston and 2 others.
