Changes in North Americans at Hart House in Toronto - DCAs & Hybrids Policy

Dear North American debating community,

The tournament would like to notify you of (1) an update regarding our adjudication core and (2) provide you with a clarification on team registration policy.

(1) Due to university-related commitments, one of our American DCAs, Michael Baer, will be unable to be in Toronto for the weekend of the tournament. Michael will, however, continue to serve as a DCA and participate in motion selection, team and adjudicator recruitment, and offer assistance to the tournament in a continuing advisory role.

We have also decided to add Buzz Klinger as an additional American DCA to our adjudication core. Buzz has debated in the American BP circuit for Hobart and William Smith Colleges, is a US BP National Champion, has broken at Worlds as both a debater and a judge, and will be the CA of the upcoming 2013 HWS Fall Classic in Geneva, New York.

(2) The tournament will not allow teams composed of debaters from different universities ("hybrid" teams) and teams must be composed of debaters who are currently-enrolled students at the same university. While our invitation did not initially specifically prohibit hybrids, this was an oversight on our part and the intention was always to prohibit hybrids, a policy that exists for most title tournaments such as Worlds, Euros, and the Canadian Parliamentary Nationals.

Best and hope everyone has a great fall semester!

Yours,
Ashvin Singh
James Hardy (jphardy@uvm.edu)
